Hello, I’m Don Mayse, and this is my wife, Marylou. We are fifty something graduates of the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, where we met and married thirty five years ago. My major was in Food Science and Nutrition, and Marylou’s in Family Economics & Management.

After twenty years working in town, we decided to “retire” and bought a farm just south of Columbia, Missouri. Our son, Brian, took over the business, and Sho-Me Farms was born in 1992, the realization of a life long dream. Our small herd of ten registered Shorthorn cattle grew into over 150 mother cows. We enjoy showing our cattle locally and at some state and national shows. Since my background is in the meat business--my Mom & Dad owned a wholesale meat company when I was a kid--our cattle operation quickly evolved into the beef business. It has grown each year and is marketed under the registered trademark “Sho-Me Farms Born Tender BEEF”.

In 2002, Jerome Grethen moved here with his family from Northern Iowa to be our Farm Manager and Herdsman. He has been a great asset. If you shop at the Columbia Farmer’s market, you’ll meet Jerome. He is personable, knowledgeable enthusiastic, and friendly. Jerome’s family is involved, too. Kelly, his wife helps us distribute our beef jerky sticks to customers in Columbia and Jefferson City. His children are in 4-H & FFA, and Amanda, his daughter raises 250 hens and sells her eggs at the Farm Market and Farmer’s Markets in the area.
